First Day at Heartwood: May 1, 2000. Working with Cristino's crew. Cristino was removing deadwood from the largest Cottonwood Pete had ever seen, bombing out huge pieces of wood as Pete tried to hide underneath a deck. When Cristino called "all clear", he put on his hard hat and scurried to pick up the wood as fast as he could. He recalls being amazed that people could climb that high, and remembers thinking that it seemed very dangerous. He was also very impressed and inspired.

Education: University of Buffalo - Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies. Certified Arborist 2002. Certified Tree Worker 2004. Board Certified Master Arborist 2009. Achieved "Arrow of Light" award in Webelos (highest award a cub scout can attain). Also once won a blue ribbon in 4-H for his recipe for Elderberry Muffins.
Professional Affiliations: International Society of Arboriculture member, Southern Chapter of the ISA member, NC Urban Forest Council member, Charlotte Arborists Association member, American Chestnut Foundation member.
Hobbies: Cooking. Spending time with his wife and two boys. Hiking. Driving around with neck craned upward looking at trees. Identifying various flora with ID book. Collecting samples to grow in his evil lab. Bird watching.
Pleated or Plain Front: Plain front. He refuses to wear pleats. Pleats are for guys with big guts and shiny belts.
Turn-ons: Full moons. Starry nights. Timber framed cabins in snowy settings. Roaring fires.
Turn-offs: Crowds. Mean people. Cheap people. Italian loafers (not the people, the shoes).
 Look at his pale little legs. Those little legs just ran in two trys at the 2007 Mutts 7s rugby tournament in Charlotte. The Heartwood squad went on to win the tournament, but everybody already knows that.
